The 320Fb supports Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition. Despite its modular redundancy, the 320Fb requires only a single Windows license per system. Furthermore, NEC's device driver software complements the fault tolerant ASIC design, enabling users to run middleware and applications without modification while fault tolerant remains transparent to users. Additionally, the 320Fb provides Asianux models to address diverse application environment.

Main Components Replicated for Continuous Availability
The NEC Express5800/ 320Fb features redundant CPU/IO modules and hard disk drive modules in its single chassis. The CPU/IO module contains main hardware components - CPU, memory, and PCI-X slots - and operates in lockstep with the replicated module. The 320Fb offers advanced fault tolerance with its new chipset designed to control lockstep operation.

The hard drive modules are separated from the CPU/IO modules to maintain disk mirroring during replacement of CPU/IO module. Each CPU/IO module uses a separate power supply unit so that operations continue uninterrupted in the event of a power supply failure in either module.
Furthermore, the CPU/IO modules, hard disk drive modules and power supply units are hot-swappable and accessible from both the front and the rear side of the chassis, anbling the replacement without interrupting system operation. The pedestal models 320Fb-L and 320Fb-M are equipped with two 5-inch device bays for backup devices.

Easier Hardware replacement and fast recovery THE EXPRESSSCOPE
The EXPRESSSCOPE consisting of status LED indicators on the chassis helps identify a faulty module and allows for easier hardware replacement and faster recovery during system operation. The 320Fb comes bundled with NEC ESMPRO status monitoring software to collect detailed error information and Remote Management Card (optional for the 320Fb-L and 320Fb-LR ) and DianScope remote control utility enable remote system control. |

Water Cooling for Silent Operation

The mid-range 320Fb-M and 320Fb-MR models employ a water-cooling unit to reduce operating noise from internal fans, and the pedestal models (320Fb-M and 320Fb-L) employ a noise absorption muffler to reduce the noise from the power supply units. A water-cooling unit and a noise absorption muffler contribute to cutting operation noise inside the chassis, making it posible to place the systems in a wide range of locations. |
Note: NEC Express5800/ft series is intended to enhance hardware fault tolerance by replicating main hardware components. It does not ensure fault tolerance for operating system and other installed software applications. To ensure software fault tolerance, be sure to take the neccessary preventive measures as exercises for other general servers.
