Latest News / Manila October Run is Powered by NEC RFID Solution

Runners pass through an RFID gate at the finish line and get to check their time and ranking through an NEC plasma screen situated right after the gate.

October 22, 2006, The Fort, Taguig City, Philippines-An NEC RFID solution was used as a timing system in Fort Striders' recently concluded OctoberRun, held last October 22 at The Fort, Taguig City, Manila, Philippines.

The OctoberRun had two events: the 4-Mile and the 8-Mile Run. More than a thousand runners were "tagged" through a custom-made velco bracelet that contained the RFID tag. NEC Philippines, through its marketing and NECare teams, assisted in the event by providing the tags, assembling the custom-made bracelets to which the tags were attached and in configuring an RFID solution that could be used to determine each runner's time and ranking. Local RFID partner Global Technologies, Inc. (GTK) provided the RFID readers.

Fort Striders is a non-profit organization made up of runners and cyclists. The OctobeRun Festival is part of the Group's fund raising effort called "Piso Bawat Milya" (A Peso for a Mile), of which one peso is donated to the rehabilitation of the Pasig River for every mile a runner finishes.

NECPH not only sponsored the event by providing the RFID tags and solution, 6 NECPH employees also joined the run, with Marivic Gamo (Business Development, Marketing & Support), Rell Baylon (Marketing), Luz Barrion (Admin), Tiny Nate (HR) and Rose Palma (Finance) finishing the 4-Mile Run, and Vince Rodriguez finishing the 8-Mile Run. NECPH EVP Doy Santos was also present during the event to help in the awarding of the prizes.
