Serving Young Minds Through IT

NEC Philippines EVP Leonardo "Doy" Santos (right) donates another server unit to Chancellor Dr. Luis Rey Velasco for the use of the University of the Philippines at Los Banos in Laguna.

Nec Philippines has been working on making products and service accessible to institutions other than its usual market of large corporations.In its efforts to reach out other sectors on the community, NEC has tapped school institutions. The most recent one is that of the University of the Philippines Los Baños-Information Technology Center (UPLB-ITC), which recently acquired NEC servers. UPLB-IT’s 14 units of NEC Express5800/I Ra-e1 will be used for the expansion of Web access throughout the campus. It will also be used for online registrations and other needed applications to provides better student services. NEC Express 5800/I 120Ra-e1 rack mount serve is one of the company’s key products that help in achieving targets for energy conservation. It uses a power saving device and an optimal design for energy savings through fan rotation and lower CPU voltage.

The company believes that in choosing its products, the university welcomes NEC’s environmental value for the money in the same way that NEC appreciates the trust given to its products by the university. On January 15 NEC Philippines EVP Loenardo “Doy” Santos donated another server unit to UPLB Chancellor Dr. Luis Rey I. Velasco for the use of the university. The donated unit was an NEC Express 5800/110Ge tower server suited for web serving and an idea file and print server that provides data protection. With this NEC-UPLB-ITC partnership, innovations in communications and information within the university can now be improved without endangering the sustainability of the environment and the society.
