Making Difference One Tree at a Time

NEC like other electronic gadget producers consumes electricity with their products.  Electrical power as we know of course is a critical resource because of increasing demand and fewer and slower discoveries on means to ensure sustained supply without further straining the environment.

This, NEC is totally mindful of.

Addressing climate change and environmental preservation is one of NEC’s corporate responsibility [CSR] initiatives in line with their vision to have an information society empowered by innovation but at the same time friendly to humans and to the earth.

“To make a difference, you need not have to go big and noticeable by many. You can do small steps that would be very helpful in the long run,” said Mike Calma, NEC’s Business Support Development Manager.

He goes on to say that they are also trying to break mindsets on being elaborate in showing our care for the environment and forgetting simple activities. “It is important to affirm that we can spark change even in small ways, “he added.

And NEC walked their talk last November 15.  NEC Philippines employees joined the UP Mountaineers (UPM) in their tree planting and plant nurturing activity at Norzagaray, Bulacan as part of their campaign to save the water supply in Metro Manila.

Yearly, the company employees participate in several worthwhile activities that address environmental and social issues in the community. They have done other tree planting activities, runs for a cause and adopting, nurturing farmlands and other similar activities.

The Saturday activity was called NEC’s “Make a difference day.” The company’s employees planted the once bare land up the mountains with 150 seedlings of different trees. Armed with garden tools they toiled under the scorching heat and positioned what they hope to be sturdy trees that would help guard the watershed.

The day was also an opportunity for the employees to bond and build relationships among fellow employees and their heads.

Mr. Calma said the day turned out well. The people had fun and at the same time had joy in their hearts after doing an activity that is meant to help and impact other people as well.
