NEC Solutions Asia Pacific showcases its Automatic Border Control and Passport Identification solutions in India for the first time - as part of strategic solutions business expansion in India

NEW DELHI, 24 AUGUST 2005 - For the first time, NEC Solutions Asia Pacific Pte Ltd (NECSAP), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NEC Corporation, is showcasing its Automatic Border Control solution and Passport Personalisation and Identification systems in India as it embarks on its solutions business expansion in India. This showcase is part of NECSAPs presentation on "E-Government - National ID Card & Electronic Passport" at the India-Japan Infocomm Technology Forum jointly organised by the two governments, and held at Oberoi Imperial Hotel, New Delhi.

Said Mr. Tan Boon Chin, Senior Vice-President, Systems Integration Group, NEC Solutions Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, "As an established IT solutions provider in Southeast Asia, we have successfully deployed national scale turnkey solutions, and have recently been awarded tenders to implement the e-passport system for Singapore and Thailand. India represents a huge market for NECSAP in South Asia and we see great potential for us to offer our market-proven expertise in border control systems and strengthen our market presence here, especially in view of greater awareness for heightened national security. We are ready to deploy our field-proven solutions with our local partners in India, specifically for national projects involving the national ID system, automated border control system and e-passport system."

"With NECs 30 years of continuous R&D and breakthrough in Biometric Identification technology, coupled with 2 decades of implementation experience over 27 countries in the world, we are confident of delivering a robust secure e-passport project for Singapore," added Mr. Tan.

NECSAP is the Prime Contractor to deliver the Singapore biometric passport, providing the biometric applications for the system. Working together with NECSAP are fellow consortium members - NCS Pte Ltd, SNP Security Printing Pte Ltd and Gemplus Technologies Asia Pte Ltd.

NECSAP will be showcasing the following exhibits:

  • Automatic Border Control Solution with ePassport
An electronic passport, personalised with biometrics attributes such as facial and fingerprint data in its embedded chip, is authenticated at a fully automated immigration control gate. A passport holder identifies himself through live facial and fingerprint authentication at the gate.

  • Passport Personalisation System
Live personalisation of passport booklets will be shown. The registration, enrolment, accuracy, speed and security lamination process will be emphasized during the live demonstration. The same passport will be used for the next system demonstration.

  • Machine Readable Passport Identification System at immigration counter
The newly personalised and "issued" passport with its owner will be authenticated at the immigration counter using its Machine Readable Zone (MRZ).

Said Mr. Tan, "NECSAP has a strong presence in India with its multimedia display products and has been expanding this business rapidly for the past few years. We remain committed to expanding our business and market presence in India and we hope this showcase will demonstrate our core strengths and expertise in not just border control and epassport solutions but also systems integration and innovative identity solutions using biometrics. After all, backed by a sound history of excellence in its solutions and service levels, our parent company, NEC Corporation, was ranked one of the worlds top five companies in the field of information technology and network solutions last year."
