FEATURES:

Newly-developed RAID processor with outstanding high performance in the midrange class

  • A RAID processor (LSI high-speed interconnect) that achieves high-speed communication between controllers at 4GB/s was developed. Furthermore, by adding disk enclosures with a new switch technology, best in class performance (1.8 times the throughput performance and twice the IOPS performance when compared to NEC Storage S2300) has been achieved.
Standard eight host ports enable an economical system configuration
  • Since NEC Storage S2800 has eight host ports, up to four servers with dual path can be connected without an FC switch, enabling a simple and low-cost configuration.
Equipped with RAID-6 Technology, which dramatically increases the reliability and availability of storage
  • Dual parity (RAID-6) allows continuous operation even if two HDDs fail, thus minimizing recovery time.
The dynamic pool function enables flexible and efficient disk capacity management with the virtualization technology.
  • In addition to the conventional management of diskd in units of "RANK", a new dynamic pool function has been developed to enable capacity expansion according to the precise needs, without users being aware of the physical configuration of RAID and RANK (in a RAID-6 configuration).

A logical disk with the necessary capacity can be created from the pool. When the pool does not have enough capacity, the capacity can be added by installing additional HDDs on at a time.

When the logical disk becomes unnecessary, it can be separated from the server and returned to the pool. It is also possible to allocate additional logical disk capacity from the pool.

*1 the way to increase the capacity recognized by the server differs depending on the platform and the file system.

Phoenix technology prevents interruption of operation

  • Phoenix technology, "which evolved from the Hot Spare Disk, is adopted. A disk drive causing a delay in response is separated from RAID, and background diagnosis is automatically performed. If no defects are found, it is returned to the original RAID configuration, thus reducing the need for switching to the hot spare disk. When a delay in response has occured, the disk drive is separated temporarily and the response is made without accessing the failed drive, to minimize response delay.
